National Futures Association and AARP co-sponsor financial education program during Money Smart Week

April 13, Chicago - National Futures Association (NFA) and AARP will co-sponsor a seminar to advise individuals on how to help make ends meet during the current economic downturn and how to avoid becoming a victim of investment fraud. The seminar, "Real Relief in an Uncertain Economy", will be held on Tuesday, April 21 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the AARP Illinois Office, 222 N. LaSalle St., Suite 710. The event is one of more than 450 free classes, seminars and activities promoting financial education that will take place during Money Smart Week Chicago (April 18-25).

"We are proud to partner with AARP on this program," said NFA Senior Vice President Karen Wuertz. "Both of our organizations are strongly committed to providing individuals with the information they need to make sound financial choices."

During the program, an AARP representative will discuss the information included in a new section of AARP's newest Website, called "Real Relief". Real Relief contains tools and resources to assist individuals in making ends meet in these harsh economic times. Immediately following the AARP portion of the program, an NFA representative will provide attendees with advice on how to avoid becoming victims of investment fraud.

"With the cost of food and health care skyrocketing, families losing their homes, retirement accounts shrinking and millions of Americans without a job, AARP recently launched Real Relief to help people weather these tough economic times," said Merri Dee, AARP Illinois State President. "Real Relief offers timely information, programs and tools to help those who seek employment or job training, need to cut back on expenses, or protect their investments."

Anyone wishing to attend the NFA/AARP program, during which a light lunch will be served, must pre-register by calling 312-458-3623. Space is limited.

Coordinated by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Money Smart Week offers more than 450 free educational classes, seminars and activities focusing on financial topics for people of all walks of life. For more information or to view the most up-to-date calendar, visit moneysmartweek.org/Chicago.
