National Futures Association and AARP co-sponsor "Avoiding Fraud is Your Best Money Strategy" during Money Smart Week

April 18, Chicago—National Futures Association (NFA) and AARP Illinois will co-sponsor a workshop aiming to provide individuals and community leaders with the tools they need to help protect themselves and others from identity theft and investment fraud.

The workshop, "Avoiding Fraud is Your Best Money Strategy", will be held on Thursday, April 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the AARP Illinois office, which is located at 222 N. LaSalle St., in Chicago, Ill.

"At NFA, we strive to ensure investors make smart decisions, especially when it comes to trusting others with their money," said NFA Senior Vice President Karen Wuertz. "With advances in technology, consumers are facing more threats now than ever."

This workshop is just part of a series of free classes and activities promoting financial education that will take place during Money Smart Week, a nationwide public awareness campaign designed to help consumers better manage their personal finances. Coordinated by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Money Smart Week runs from April 23 to April 30.

During the workshop, representatives from AARP and NFA will provide attendees with advice on how to identify the warning signs and combat against identity theft and investment fraud.

"Millions of Americans are still at high risk of having their financial and personal information stolen by identity thieves, said Andre Jordan, Associate State Director for Advocacy and Outreach with AARP in Illinois. "AARP works very hard to arm Illinoisans, and all Americans, with the tools and resources they need to spot and avoid identity theft to protect their hard-earned money. We are proud to partner with NFA in these efforts."

Anyone wishing to attend the workshop should pre-register.
