Cryptocurrency Trading Platforms: Do Your Homework

In the new world of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology, a number of service providers have emerged to assist users in managing their cryptocurrencies. An important development is the emergence of cryptocurrency online platforms that let users buy, sell, exchange, and in some cases, store cryptocurrencies.

FINRA provides investors with eight tips on using cryptocurrency trading platforms.

Are You Prepared for Your Financial Future?

To help investors get started with creating personal savings and investment plans, the SEC's Office of Investor Education and Advocacy has developed an investor preparedness checklist. The checklist encourages investors to:

  • Identify goals to create a custom financial plan;
  • Pay off high-interest debts;
  • Participate in company retirement plans;
  • Perform background checks on investment professionals; and
  • Understand risk tolerance and fees.

July is Military Consumer Month

Military Consumer Month is an initiative to empower active duty and retired service members, military families, veterans and civilians in the military community. During Military Consumer Month, the Federal Trade Commission partners with a number of organizations, including NFA, to provide military consumers with financial education materials, in order to make better-informed decisions.

Chicago Traders Expo

This year, NFA is participating in the Chicago Traders Expo, which takes place at the Chicago Hyatt McCormick Place from Sunday, July 21 to Tuesday, July 23.

The Traders Expo offers an opportunity to meet with, learn from, and ask questions to investment professionals and others in the industry.

Attendees are welcome to stop by NFA's booth, ask questions and pick up NFA's educational resources.

IOSCO's World Investor Week

The International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) recently announced the third annual World Investor Week (WIW), which will take place from Monday, September 30, 2019 through Friday, October 4, 2019. WIW is designed to promote investor education and protection through a variety of educational resources and workshops.

As part of this initiative, NFA looks forward to presenting an educational webinar for the investing public and will share further information in the coming months.

Additionally, the following initiatives will take place during WIW:

  • World Financial Planning Day
    The Financial Planning Standards Board (FPSB) is partnering with IOSCO to launch World Financial Planning Day. On October 2, 2019, the global financial planning community will come together for World Financial Planning Day to help raise awareness of the value of financial planning, having a financial plan and working with a competent and ethical financial planner who puts clients’ interests first.
  • Ring the Bell for Financial Literacy
    The World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) is partnering with IOSCO to launch Ring the Bell for Financial Literacy. The bell ringing ceremonies will be opportunities for WFE members to promote the work they are doing in their own jurisdictions to improve financial education and literacy.
